  • Error 6150 can show up when you are trying to create, open or to use a company file. You could error message “an error occurred when QuickBooks tried to create, open or use the company file. Please try again. If the problem persists contact Intuit Technical Support and provide them with error code 6150, -1006.”
  • This can show up when the company file is damaged.
  • CryptoWall virus infection can also result in the error. This can be verified by checking to see if the QuickBooks company file folder contains a document called Decrypt_Instructions).
  • QuickBooks installation or company file is damaged or you are opening a portable.qbm file without opening QuickBooks.

You Can Try A Couple Of Methods To Resolve The Situation And Overcome Error 6150.


Method 1
CryptoWall virus is quite damaging and it will corrupt the existing company file so you need to remove the virus first and then proceed to restore the company file from a backup copy.

  • Go to QuickBooks file menu and click on open or restore the company
  • Select open or restore a backup copy and then click on next
  • Pick local back and click on next
  • Click on the look in a drop-down menu and choose the location of the backup file and then select the backup file
  • Click on open and then on next
  • Click Save in a drop-down menu and choose the location where you want the file to be restored.
  • Type in a new name in the file name field and then click on save and let the restoration process proceed.

Method 2
You can use QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery but this works only with QuickBooks Pro, Premier and enterprise editions after 2012. It helps to recover the lost file by restoring log transactions or by restoring data with a copy of the company file and the transaction file.

  • Create a new folder on the desktop and give it a name
  • Navigate to the folder where company file resides and select .tlg file, right click, copy and then paste to the new folder created on the desktop.
  • Open QuickBooks AutoData Recovery folder which is usually in the same location as the company file and copy .qbw.adr file and paste it into the newly created folder as above.
  • Click on the .qbw.adr file in the new folder and rename it and remove .adr from the file extension.
  • Now open QuickBooks and open company file saved to the new folder. It should open.
  • Run file-utilities-verify data to check data integrity. If it is OK, move it to the original QuickBooks folder where the company file resides but move the existing file to another location.
