QuickBooks H101 Error Multi User Setup Problem
Try to carry out an operation in QuickBooks such as accessing company files and the process usually goes through. However, QuickBooks can show up errors and this can leave you confused as to why this happened and how to resolve it.

Why QuickBooks Error H101 Happens?

When you try to access company files that are in another computer you can get QuickBooks H101 error. It means your instance of QuickBooks on your computer cannot access company file located in another computer system and that you may have to install QuickBooks on that computer as well. Your QuickBooks cannot communicate with that computer and therefore this error shows up. It can also show up if the hosting configuration is incorrect or corrupted.

QuickBooks firewall setting may block access to company files and it blocks incoming and outgoing communication. The QuickBooks database server manager may not be able to find the IP address of the host computer or the DNS setting may be incorrectly leading to this error. Some services like QuickBooks DBXX/QBCF are not running in the background and H101 pops up.

How to Resolve QuickBooks Error H101?

Follow any of these approaches one by one.

Approach 1
  • You can verify hosting by opening QuickBooks and then navigating to file->utilities and viewing the host multi-user access list to see if the computer is listed as hosting the file. If the screen shows Stop Hosting Multi-User Access then select it and then in the company “File must be closed window” click on Yes and proceed to next step.
  • Check to make sure DBXX and QBCF monitor services are running in the background. Click on Windows start button and press windows+R key to start run box in which you type MSC and press enter. You can see if DBXX service is running.
  • If it is not, then use database server manager and make sure it is installed on the server and run it on that server and verify hosting is enabled.
  • Double click on DBXX service and confirm the startup type.
  • Click on Recovery and computer will restart and restart QuickDB service. Click on save changes and repeat all the above steps for QBCF monitor service.
