Printing checks are one part of the processes contained in QuickBooks to make life easier for accountants and for businesses. For the most part printing checks is an easy process and there are usually no issues but then Murphy’s law can strike at any time and you will find yourself facing issues such as having to reprint existing checks. People who use QuickBooks generally follow a set routine of clicking on a few buttons and inserting some data in the fields and then give the print command. However, reprinting existing checks without creating new numbers and entries can be daunting especially if you have not done this before.

For some reason or another, you may find that the need to reprint existing checks could arise in QuickBooks such as when the printer jams or when you need to have more than one copy of the check. Whatever the reason, you can reprint existing checks following the simple procedures outlined below.

Approach 1

Find the checks to be reprinted this way

  • Click on the magnifying tool at the top of the page if you know details and wish to search for transactions.
  • Next enter the transaction number, date or amount and select enter.

Approach 2

  • Find checks to be reprinted.
  • Click on edit for options related to each check
  • Click on banking menu at top right and then on Use Register which leads to dropping down menu with bank accounts from which you choose the appropriate account and click OK.
  • Navigate to list of checks and select checks to be reprinted by highlighting the number of the check and pressing “T”. Next click on Record button at the foot of the register and then on yes when it asks you to record the changes.
  • The check will go into the print queue.
  • Go to file and then print forms – print check and select checks to be printed and click on OK.
  • Print checks window appears and then you click on OK.
  • Make sure the Starting check field displays a # otherwise QuickBooks will print a new check.
